China Golden Week 2026: Holiday Dates, Shipping Delays and Logistics Impact

The Mid-Autumn Festival and Golden Week take place only a few days apart in 2026. Importers should therefore prepare for reduced capacity and potential delays from late September.

Holiday Dates

The Mid-Autumn Festival takes place from 25 to 27 September, followed by Golden Week from 1 to 7 October. This only leaves three regular working days between the two holidays.

Potential delays and capacity challenges

Activity typically increases ahead of Golden Week as factories work to complete and dispatch orders before the holiday. This may lead to:

  • Limited capacity for road, sea and air freight
  • Higher freight rates
  • Delayed bookings and collections
  • Reduced capacity at ports, terminals and customs
  • Limited container availability

Disruptions may continue for one to two weeks after Golden Week as production and transport operations gradually return to normal-

We recommend planning ahead

To reduce the risk of delays, we recommend that importers:

  • Confirm their suppliers’ closing and reopening dates
  • Complete production, inspections and documentation well in advance
  • Book transport three to four weeks before the preferred departure date
  • Allow additional time in delivery schedules
  • Consider alternative routes or modes of transport for time-critical shipments
